Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) issues and enforces NPDES permits in Wyoming, which it calls WYPDES permits, under authorization from EPA Region 8. EPA Region 8 issues the permits on tribal lands, including the Wind River Indian Reservation. Klarifi tracks 58 permits held by publicly owned treatment plants in the state.

WYPDES stands for Wyoming Pollutant Discharge Elimination System: in Wyoming, NPDES permits are issued as WYPDES permits. WDEQ issues them under the Clean Water Act with EPA’s approval, so a WYPDES permit is an NPDES permit.

In the last three years, 39 of the 58 municipal plants on this page recorded at least one effluent violation, a monitored value above its permit limit, as did 111 of the 1,431 industrial permits in force.
